Mumbai, 05th June: Punjab FC have reached the final of the Dream Sports Championship after topping Group A of the National Finals with 7 points. The Shers’ U-17 team defeated Football 4 Change Academy 6-0 in their opening match of the National Finals courtesy of a hat-trick from Pyrkhatshaphrang Sumer.
In the second game, the Shers had a comfortable 2-0 victory over Dempo Sports Club. Thongbam Lanchenba Singh and Vishal Yadav scored for Punjab FC. In the last group game, PFC settled for a goalless draw against Chennayin FC and secured their place in the final with a better goal difference (GD) than their opponent. The Shers are still undefeated and yet to concede a goal in this U-17 tournament.
Punjab FC reached the national finals by beating Sudeva Delhi FC by a margin of 4-0 in double leg fixture. In the first fixture, Punjab beat Sudeva by a margin of 3-0. Satnam Singh, Vishal Yadav and Joy Das scored for the Shers. In the reverse fixture, Pyrkhatshaphrang Sumer’s solo goal gave Punjab a 1-0 victory over the Delhi team. Punjab will now face the winner of Group B. East Bengal FC, FC Goa, Mumbai City FC and Lah Bet FC are present in Group B. Final will be played on 7th June.
