Punjab FC got back to winning ways in style, defeating International FC 2-0 in their second outing of the ongoing 39th Punjab State Super Football League. The result marked an important response after their opening-day defeat and gave the team much-needed confidence in the campaign.

The first half saw Punjab FC dominate possession, creating a few half-chances but lacking the finishing touch in the final third. International FC, on the other hand, tried to catch the Shers on the counter but were held off by a disciplined backline. Both sides went into the break goalless, with everything to play for in the second half.

The breakthrough arrived in the 60th minute when Ngarin Shaiza latched onto a clever ball and slotted it past the goalkeeper to open the scoring. The goal injected energy into the Punjab side, who began dictating the tempo and pressing higher up the pitch.

As International FC pushed bodies forward in search of an equaliser, Punjab FC looked dangerous on the counter. The decisive moment came in the 87th minute when Abhishek Rattu calmly converted from the penalty spot after a foul inside the box, putting the game beyond their opponent’s reach.

The 2-0 win was not just about the goals but also about the team’s resilience and organisation. After conceding three in their opener, the clean sheet reflected a strong defensive effort and sharper focus at the back. It also highlighted the growing chemistry within the squad, which will be key as the league progresses.

Punjab FC will now look to build on this victory when they take on Young Football Club at home on August 23. The Shers will aim to carry forward the momentum and continue their push to climb higher in the league standings.
